Win one for the Gipper.
~ American Catch Phrase [19564]

In the movie, Knute Rockne: All American, Ronald Reagan played the part of the dying George Gipp. Pat O'Brien, who played the title role, uttered:

And the last thing he said to me, "Rock," he said, "sometime when the team is up against it and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to go out there with all they've got and win just one for the Gipper.

From that point on, Reagan became identified with "the Gipper" name.

Years later, when Reagan ran for president, "win one for the Gipper" became a motivational battle cry of support and encouragement.

Today it is still commonly used by politicians wishing to draw a favorable comparison to Ronald Reagan's reputation.
